wasabi orgasm

Lucky Fish Japanese Restaurant - bento box

I like to take a California roll, smear it with a light coating of wasabi, dip it in a bit of soy sauce, put the whole thing in my mouth and chew for a while, breath in through my mouth, close my mouth, swallow the sushi, breath out through my nose and then… wasabi orgasm! Seriously, there is really nothing like it.

I love Japanese food and I used to go at least once a week to an all you can eat sushi bar in Northern California but that was before I moved over seas. Once in Europe I never really got any decent Japanese food unless it was in a major city like London or Paris but I never lived in a major city so I was generally restricted to things like deli counter and grocery store sushi. I tried it a few times but it was so bad it left me wishing I had just rolled up some wet cardboard and ate it. However, now I am living in a major city…

I’m not a huge fan of raw fish but I love sushi. I mostly like the rolls, California rolls are my favorite. If raw fish is what is scaring you away from Japanese food, just remember that sushi does not mean raw fish and that there are loads of different kinds of Japanese food that has nothing to do with raw fish.

A few favorites of the American palate are tempura, which is different vegetables or meats/fish dipped in a light batter and deep fried till crispy. Noodle dishes (everyone loves ramen right?) rice dishes, dumplings, ribs and the ever popular teriyaki. But that is not to say that you should not be adventurous and at least try sushi, in fact I can’t imagine anyone not finding at least one type of sushi they would enjoy.

Like I said, sushi does not mean raw fish. The name sushi actually refers to the cold cooked sugar and vinegar rice that is used along with Nori (the green seaweed paper) to make Maki (rolls) and Temaki (handrolls that look like cones) and some times a small ring of it is placed around Nigiri which is the hand compressed rice cakes with a topping which can be raw fish (called Sashimi) but can also be other things like cooked fish, vegetables or even a piece of omelette (tamago). So all things made with sushi rice are called sushi like all

Accompanying all types of sushi you will get gari, the thin slices of salmon pink pickled ginger used for cleansing your palate. And of course the famous Wasabi (ya I gotta say it like the Bud commercial too) which is like a green horseradish paste with a heat similar to horseradish, a top of the head type of heat, not back of the throat.

I added a two new sections to the site today, one for restaurant reviews and one for DIY & Crafts. The first restaurant review is up now and the first craft post will be up sometime later this month. Plus here is a recipe from the old site – Breakfast Salad.
