My Review:
This restaurant is relatively new to Vegas, the first time I ate there it only had a vinyl sign draped over the old restaurants name. The building itself is nothing special; it is a small square shape with lots of large windows like a dinner type place. It is located in a strip mall development in the China town neighborhood.
Inside the restaurant is clean, tactfully decorated and feels very modern. The temperature (important in Vegas) is very pleasant but not freezing cold. There is a large “sushi bar” in the middle but it isn’t of the floating boat variety. I have never sat at the bar, but I have sat at both the bench-n-chair tables and all chair tables which were all comfortable and clean. My only real complaint ambiance wise would be the pop music, depending on where you sit it can be very loud and myself personally I’m not a huge fan of that genre of music so I do find it annoying but I’m sure others must enjoy it.
Most visits we have been greeted by and served by a very pretty young woman who is very friendly, has a lovely smile and has provided excellent service every time. Once we did get a young man who seemed like he might have been new to waitering and some of the ways he went about things seemed a little odd but other then that he provided good service and we all agreed his quirkiness wasn’t a bad thing, in fact we rather enjoyed it.
I have not sampled the full menu but everything I have had has been very good. Independent of what was ordered I have been served a small salad of cucumber & crab with a sesame soy dressing, which I love, and a small bowl of meso soup which isn’t my favorite thing anyplace but this particular soup at this restaurant needs soy sauce but after that it is pleasant enough.
On my last visit we ordered gyoza ($4 for 5 as an appetizer) which is like a pot sticker but it has a beef filling and it is deep fried. I highly recommend these, in fact I could eat these until I exploded. We also skipped the meso soup in favor of the LF Special Ramen ($6, we found it plenty shared between two people as a first course) which came with a small shaker of spicy hot pepper seasoning. It was a soy and pork broth which needed no extra seasoning or soy sauce and I would definitely skip the meso again and have this instead.
My last visit was just two of us, we had the fried dumplings, ramen & two bento boxes plus two sodas and an iced green tea, our check was $35. Price wise I think this place is pretty hard to beat, in fact the reason we ended up here in the first place is because we were looking for a reasonable family restaurant to take the kids and not break the bank. In all honesty, regardless of whom I was with or how much cash I had to spend I’d go here if I wanted Japanese cuisine.
I have favored the teriyaki bento box ($9), I find it an excellent value at and a great way to sample several dishes including sushi rolls. I love everything it comes with and have ordered it several times. This bento has (starting on the top from left to right) Teriyaki chicken on a bed of raw cabbage and sliced green onions, wasabi and gari, steamed rice, tempura vegetables and a single tempura shrimp, 4 California rolls and a green American style salad.
